On December 7th IVCi and Polycom presented on The RUS Distance Learning and Telemedicine Program. Known as RUS DLT, this grant program has provided rural communities with interactive distance learning and telemedicine equipment for more than 16 years. Below is the recording of the webinar and the slides presented.  In the presentation, IVCi and Polycom explain who is eligible for this grant, what applications fit its purpose, and suggest ways to create the most competitive grant application possible.

Polycom: Our Video Systems Communicate With Cisco’s!

Polycom has announced a new software update to the Polycom(R) RealPresence(TM) Platform that allows customers using Polycom and other standards-based video collaboration solutions to join calls with Cisco TelePresence Systems, and vice-versa.

The latest RealPresence Platform software update, released today, also further extends interoperability across Microsoft and IBM UC environments.

More Teachers Want Video Conferencing in Their Classrooms

According to a recent study by Polycom, more teachers are aware of the power of video conferencing technology and an increasing number want to use it to enhance communication.

More than three-quarters of British teachers would like access to video conferencing technology so they can have digital meetings with pupils, their parents and colleagues when face-to-face meetings are not possible. The driving force behind demand for the technology appears to be its ability to increase engagement.

Polycom adds whiteboard technology to video conferencing solution

Video conferencing has begun encompassing everything you would expect from a standard, face-to-face board room meeting and Polycom has even managed to integrate digital whiteboards in to its offering. The firm hopes that this final addition will make its unified communications technology a well-rounded solution that will appeal to practically all businesses.

 
The inclusion of whiteboard capabilities comes after video conferencing specialists raced to integrate as many disparate technologies as possible – including video sharing, document collaboration and PowerPoint solutions – into an all-encompassing offering. Speaking to Information Week, John Antanaitis, vice president of product marketing at Polycom, said: “The last thing in the room that we were never able to connect was the whiteboard.”

Polycom brings video conferencing to iPad, Android tablets

Polycom today unveiled a new video conferencing application, RealPresence Mobile, that will run on the iPad 2 and Android tablets.

The app runs on Polycom’s RealPresence platform, which runs its standard videoconferencing rooms and terminals that include larger high-definition televisions and speaker systems. The idea is to encourage even more video conferencing use by enabling the tablets to talk with the larger video conference rooms.
